Hotels Own Introduction
A Legacy of Excellence
Excellence, innovation and avant-garde thinking define the spirit of Akelarre. Guided by an unwavering commitment to quality, the philosophy of the house is built on constant improvement and a willingness to question conventions — always asking why things should not be done differently.
A Culinary Destination with Luxury Accommodation
This pursuit of perfection led to the creation of Akelarre Hotel, an experience that elevates the renowned gastronomy of the house with a refined five-star stay. The result is one of the rare hotels in the world to feature its own three-Michelin-starred restaurant, offering guests a seamless journey between exceptional cuisine and elegant hospitality.
Natural Materials and Timeless Design
The same dedication to quality that defines the kitchen extends throughout the hotel. Carefully selected natural materials blend harmoniously with the surrounding landscape, creating warm, spacious interiors that feel both contemporary and welcoming.
A Spa Overlooking the Sea
Located on the first floor and framed by sweeping sea views, the Akelarre Spa is an adults-only sanctuary designed for relaxation of body and mind. Spanning 800 square metres, the wellness space features three treatment rooms — including a double cabin — as well as a sauna, steam room, and a heated hydrotherapy pool equipped with hydromassage jets, waterfalls for the back, and a whirlpool.
The experience concludes in a tranquil relaxation area where guests can unwind on loungers, enjoy a selection of teas and infusions, and take in the calming ocean views through expansive windows. Five private changing rooms with shower and WC ensure comfort and privacy.
The Vision of Pedro Subijana
At the heart of Akelarre stands chef Pedro Subijana, one of the founding figures of the New Basque Cuisine movement. From this very place, he helped transform Spanish gastronomy by championing a style of author-driven cuisine that honours local ingredients while continuously pushing the boundaries of culinary creativity.
