For generations, this landscape had been pushed beyond its natural limits. Indigenous vegetation was stripped away, the land overgrazed and over-farmed, while the safari animals that once moved freely across it were hunted out more than 275 years ago by colonial hunters.

Through decades of committed conservation, indigenous habitats were restored, the landscape rewilded and wildlife gradually reintroduced. Nature was not forced back into place.
