A Highland Retreat at the Edge of the Wild
Set amid the vast coastal landscapes of Sutherland in the far north of Scotland, Hope is an immersive retreat shaped by the wild character of its surroundings. Once a historic hunting lodge, it has been reimagined as an exclusive-use lodge, hotel and collection of cottages within WildLand’s 100,000-acre estate. Here, dramatic Highland landscapes meet conservation-led experiences, with life unfolding to the rhythms of land, sea and sky.
A Lodge Beside Loch Hope
Hope Lodge forms the heart of the retreat, with seven bedrooms, each given a distinctive Gaelic name inspired by the light, freedom and beauty of the landscape. Nearby, an architecturally striking cabin sleeps four, while two standalone cottages sit directly on the shores of Loch Hope, opening onto expansive views of the mountains and surrounding wilderness. Together, the accommodations offer a deeply private way to experience one of Scotland's most remote landscapes.
Life in the Highland Elements
Days at Hope follow the natural rhythms of the Highlands. Wide-open skies, rushing burns, silent valleys and long golden dusks provide the backdrop for days spent exploring the estate and its surrounding wilderness. Experiences are rooted in the landscape, from adventures on land and water to quieter moments of simply observing the changing light and weather. The conservation story of the estate runs through the experience, giving time in nature a deeper sense of purpose.
An Adventure into the Wild
An adventure hub provides a base for exploring the surrounding landscape, with experiences designed around the elements and the unique character of Sutherland. Whether venturing across the estate or setting out towards the coast, guests are encouraged to experience the Highlands at their own pace, with the vastness of the landscape creating a rare feeling of freedom and space.
Food Rooted in the Landscape
Dining is an essential part of the Hope experience, with seasonal cooking inspired by the land surrounding the estate. Expert chefs work closely with trusted local suppliers, while ingredients are sourced from WildLand's own estates or foraged from the surrounding countryside. Breakfasts, lunches and suppers reflect the changing seasons, bringing the flavours of the Highlands to the table with an emphasis on provenance, freshness and simplicity.
A Deeper Connection to Sutherland
Hope is ultimately a place where the landscape is not simply a backdrop but the heart of the experience. From its loch-side cottages and historic lodge to its conservation-led adventures and deeply local cuisine, the retreat offers an intimate way to experience the wild beauty of northern Scotland—and to reconnect with the slower rhythms of the natural world.
